Africa could become the next major player in the global cannabis industry, thanks to an investment by a London-based company.

Eden Pharma Ltd. recently announced plans to acquire a 5,000-acre site in Uganda for cannabis research and development. According to the company it will be the largest cannabis facility in the world.

The new facility will house research on cannabis and the industry as well as produce CBD and cannabis for use in markets globally.

According to an Eden Pharma release, the Uganda project allows the company to be “a vertically integrated company delivering for its customers and shareholders alike.”

The venture is projected to boost Uganda’s annual gross domestic product by 3 percent.
