Did You Know There’s a List Cities are Itching to Get Off Of?

Lists have become a staple of the information age, with releases on the best places to live, retire, visit, start a business and so on. But while most of these Top 10 lists can be a point of pride for communities, others not so much.
Pest control company Terminix recently published its list of the Most Mosquito-Infested Cities in the United States and the Sunshine State is well represented. In fact, two of the Top 10 places where the little blood suckers abound are in Florida.
“As spring temperatures rise, we’re already seeing mosquito activity ramp up across the country,” said Dr. Sydney Crawley, Principal Vector Scientist at Terminix, in a media release. “Mosquitoes aren’t just a backyard nuisance – they can also carry diseases that pose real public health risks. Our annual rankings help raise awareness and encourage people to take proactive steps to protect themselves, their families and their communities.”
According to the Terminix release, Los Angeles tops the list, followed by Dallas, New York City, Atlanta and Houston. Rounding out the Top 10 are Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Orlando, Tampa/St. Petersburg and San Francisco.
The release included tips for mosquito prevention, including use of mosquito traps, removing standing water from containers regularly and reducing breeding areas such as gutters, downspouts and other low-lying areas.
