Flagler County Unemployment Drops to 3.9% After four Months Above 4%

After three months of being stagnant at 4.1%, Flagler County’s unemployment rate declined to 3.9%, according to the April 2024 data release from Florida Commerce. Meanwhile, Florida’s unemployment rate continued to increase slightly, ticking up to 3.3% in April 2024.
“Flagler’s unemployment rate declined last month because of a reduction in the number of unemployed residents, a reduction in the labor force and a reduction in the number of employed residents,” said Greg Blosé, President & CEO, Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“Although our unemployment rate is once again declining, it’s worth noting that our rate went down because of a reduction in the three main factors that lead to the calculation of the rate, Blosé continued. “The PCF Chamber expects job growth to gain steam and continue its positive momentum as we approach the summer travel season. Typically, Flagler County experiences an increase in hiring for our local tourism and retail industry sectors in the summer months, as more visitors travel to our region.”
The number of Flagler County residents that are employed (either working in this county or another county) decreased from 49,838 in March 2024 to 49,596 in March 2024, a decrease of 242 residents.
The number of unemployed job-seeking residents in Flagler County also declined, measuring 2,014 in April 2024, down from 2,115 in March 2024, a decrease of 101 residents from last month’s report.
The Flagler County labor force is reported at 51,610 residents.
