Flagler Unemployment Swells to 4.6%

Flagler County’s July 2024 unemployment rate swelled to 4.6%, an increase from June’s 4.2% unemployment rate, according to the July 2024 data release from Florida Commerce. Flagler’s 4.6% unemployment rate is the highest since August 2021’s 5.1% unemployment rate.
“The latest increase in unemployment is concerning because it occurred during the typically busy summer hiring season,” said Greg Blosé, President & CEO, Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce. “I believe the latest data show the larger, national economic trends and concerns are resulting in consumers spending less. This is supported by low consumer sentiment reports. When consumers don’t feel positive about spending money, Flagler County feels the impact more because our local economy is largely based on tourism and retail.”
Blose continued, “The Chamber, in partnership with local governments, has been working hard to diversify our economy. The past few months of unemployment reports shows why this effort is important to the overall economic health of our region.”
The number of Flagler County residents that are employed (either working in this county or another county) decreased from 49,430 in June 2024 to 49,367 in July 2024, a decrease of 63 residents.
The number of unemployed job-seeking residents in Flagler County increased, measuring 2,372 in July 2024, up from 2,147 in June 2024, an increase of 225 residents from last month’s report.
The Flagler County labor force is reported at 51,739 residents.
