Jack White
Jack White Land Company

What does your company do?

We specialize in buying, rehabbing and leasing out office and retail buildings in our historic downtown areas.

What is your background and how did you get into the business?

My family has been in local real estate for three generations, so I grew up in the business.  My passion became focused on redevelopment after visiting other cities that were successful in turning their downtowns around. Our first project was developing a mixed-use residential loft building in downtown Daytona Beach in 2006.

What sets your company apart from others?

It is or has been our niche approach to redevelopment. However, that is shifting as we see more companies entering this marketplace. We see this as a positive for us and for the community.

What is the biggest challenge your business faces?

When there are plenty of good deals in the market, there is little capital available, and when there’s plenty of available capital, there are few good deals in the market.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The freedom to be creative, be contrarian and follow a path that reinforces our vision for a balanced quality of life.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Once you’ve found your passion, take calculated risks, think smarter, not harder and approach failure more as a learning opportunity.
