Latest Economic Indicator Report Now Available
The St. Johns County Department of Economic Development issues an Economic Indicator Report each month that shares the current economic conditions and trends in St. Johns County. The report, produced by Budget Analyst Carrie Shen, tracks the county’s employment and wages, building permits, housing market statistics and visitor accommodations. In the report, recent data is presented in tables while longer-term data is presented in chart format to illustrate trends.
The May report shows that:
- The unemployment rate in the county was 2.9% in April, which was less than both the Florida rate (3.3%) and United States rate (3.9%).
- Single family housing permits remained about the same from the previous April with 358 permits issued. This number is down from the previous month, which had 510 permits issued.
- Commercial building permits remained about the same from the previous April with 98 permits issued. This number is down from the previous month, which had 124 permits issued.
- County-wide housing prices increased from the previous April by 6.7%.
