Ormond Beach Chamber to Graduate Second Class of Youth Leadership Program
The Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce is committed to developing leaders through our Youth Leadership program.
The chamber’s mission is to serve our community by advocating for business, developing leaders and promoting economic growth.
As part of the Ormond Beach Chamber’s strategic plan, workforce and education are the key components of prosperity.
In the fast-paced landscape of the 21st century, the intersection between the future workforce and education has become more critical than ever. It’s imperative for the business community to be involved in shaping our future workforce and leaders.
The Ormond Beach Chamber has developed a Youth Leadership program that we think will blend both workforce and leadership. This program was the result of the 2020 Leadership Ormond Beach Class 17 as their project and was piloted last school year in 2022. Participants in Youth Leadership Ormond Beach will gain knowledge of the community while building relationships with like-minded peers. Through interactions with local business leaders and government officials they gained valuable insights. In turn, providing these students with a solid appreciation and understanding for their community. The intent of the program is to help graduates build strong connections that keep the Ormond Beach community in their hearts and minds, whatever path they ultimately choose after their high school graduation.
The pilot program began with students from Seabreeze High School and Father Lopez Catholic High School with 16 students. The program consists of 6 afternoon sessions on early release day, beginning in August and concluding with graduation in November. Sessions mirror the chamber’s Leadership Ormond Beach program, however, are amended to topics that will engage our youth and highlight local internships and career opportunities at each session. Each student earns community service hours they can apply to their Bright Future Scholarships. The program is sponsored and facilitated by chamber Business members and is no cost to the students to participate.
Class 2 started this past August and was expanded to 21 students and added an additional session. Class 2 will graduate on November 29th.
