Over 200 Projects Drive City Improvements in 2024
In early 2024, the City of Palm Coast launched the Palm Coast Progress initiative as a means of helping to inform the public about current and upcoming city projects. Over the course of the calendar year, the city’s Stormwater/Engineering department oversaw various stages of over 200 capital projects, from infrastructure upgrades to maintenance and enhancement efforts.
Major projects of note included critical, facility upgrade efforts like enhancements at the city’s water/wastewater treatment plants, as well as city-wide projects that included milling and resurfacing of roadways and street light enhancements.
“2024 was a transformative year for Palm Coast, marked by significant strides in innovation and community connections,” said Acting City Manager Lauren Johnston. “While some projects address immediate needs, others lay the foundation for a future that prioritizes maintaining our exceptional quality of life for all. I’m so proud of the commitment and dedication of our city staff and the outpouring of support from our residents, who inspire us to aim higher every.”
To trim time and project costs, many of the projects in 2024 included collaboration from other departments, notably members of the Public Works Special Projects Team and the Parks and Recreation Department, both of whom were involved with the Ralph Carter Park Sports Fields renovation project and Phase 2 of the Southern Recreation Center. Completing projects in-house saw an estimated savings of up to 40% on some projects versus utilizing outside contractors for completion.
