SJR State OffersMore Bachelor’s Programs, On-Campus Housing Fall 2025

St. Johns River State College continues its expansion with five bachelor’s programs and student housing this fall.
“Our programs respond to the projected job outlook by bringing convenient, affordable pathways to traditional students and those seeking a career change,” said SJR State President Joe Pickens.
After determining job outlook and community interest, SJR State turned to the student body. Students were surveyed regarding their interest in bachelor’s programs. With this information, SJR State began developing new programs to meet student, industry and community demand.
The Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences program prepares students for a variety of fields including health, food safety, forensics, environmental science, conservation and compliance. The curriculum aligns with local graduate programs in biology, physical therapy and physician assistance.
“The demand for professionals trained in biology is not being met in our area, and this gap is projected to continue to grow,” said Billy Veczko, SJR State Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences. According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO), occupations in St. John’s, Putnam and Clay counties related to the Biological Sciences degree will increase by nine percent from 2023 to 2031.
The Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Student Education K-12 program trains students in specially designed instruction and related services to assist children with disabilities. The Bachelor of Science in Social and Human Services program trains for a variety of career fields including human services, social work and counseling. These programs will fill the education and human services pipelines in SJR State’s service area.
In Fall 2024, SJR State launched:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, Applied Intelligence Studies
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Systems Technology
- Associate in Science in Computer Programming and Analysis
- Associate in Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
- Associate in Science in Paralegal Studies
In addition, Florida School of the Arts on the SJR State Palatka campus will offer two new bachelor programs. The Bachelor of Science in Performance Design and Production program* provides technical skills necessary for live productions. The Bachelor of Science in Digital Art and Media program* offers advanced skills training and creative expertise in the growing fields of digital design, visual communication, animation and game design.
FloArts student Lyle Lopez plans to continue his education this fall with the school’s new performance design and production degree. The former Filipino child star aspires to take his talent and new degree from the stage to the classroom as an instructor.
He is also excited about living in housing on the Palatka campus. He currently commutes 45 minutes to attend class. “It’s difficult because I’m working shows, and at times, it’s around 2 a.m. when I get home,” he said. “I’m ecstatic about the adventure and the deepening sense of camaraderie between students on campus. That’s basically the essence of collegiate life. To see SJR State grow into the college it is now, with its additions and programs, for me, I feel like I’ve grown alongside the college. As I build myself up, it’s building itself up as well. We’re growing together.”
