Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship Commits to Daytona Beach

Area tourism businesses have something extra to cheer about with news the National Cheerleaders Association & National Dance Alliance are calling Daytona Beach home for the next three years, according to a media release from the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

This year’s event brought more than 450 teams and 10,000 participants to the city along with approximately 20,000 spectators. The annual event has been held in Daytona Beach since 1996.

“Daytona Beach continuing to serve as the home for the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships for the next three years – and hopefully well beyond – is significant news for this destination,” said CVB Executive Director Lori Campbell Baker, in an interview with EVOLVE News. “The thousands of young student athletes as well as the spectators from all over the county talk all year long about ‘getting to Daytona Beach.’”

Campbell Baker said the event has grown over the years and is important to local businesses and the wider community.

“From restaurants and hotels to the attractions and service providers, for the past 27 years, the community has come together to embrace the importance and value of this event,” she said. “Those efforts are so vital in growing this this world-class competition into the single largest collegiate cheer and dance competition in the world.

Having the beach serve as the backdrop for the ultimate celebratory photo for teams with the coveted golden trophy is also the kind of promotion that is priceless to a destination like ours.”

Campbell Baker said this year’s event generated approximately $40 million in economic impact.

“The NCA and NDA Collegiate Championship is an event that we look forward to hosting each year,” said Ocean Center Interim Director Tim Buckley, in the media release. “Between the hundreds of teams and thousands of spectators, this event’s energy and excitement are like no other. We appreciate the continued partnership and look forward to welcoming back NCA and NDA in 2024 and beyond.”

The 2024 competition, which will be the 28th year held in Daytona Beach, is scheduled for April 8-14 at the Daytona Beach Bandshell and the Ocean Center.
