St. Johns County Celebrates Start of $15 Million Widening of County Road 210

On Jan. 30, 2024, St. Johns County held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of the construction for widening County Road 210. This project will add an additional four lanes of traffic for the seven-tenths of a mile from Trinity Way to Beachwalk Boulevard with sidewalks on both sides. Additionally, a traffic signal will be added at the intersection of CR 210 and Badger Park Drive.

The ceremony began with remarks from Public Works Director Greg Caldwell.

“This is a project that a lot of people have been working on for quite some time. This takes us up to $100 million of just major transportation improvements under contract for construction,” said Caldwell.

“This is going to do so much for the residents along this road and those who travel from I-95 to US 1. This couldn’t come at a better time for my district,” said District 5 Commissioner Henry Dean.

A ceremonial dirt toss was conducted, which included St. Johns Board of County Commissioners District 2 Commissioner and Board Chair Sarah Arnold, District 3 Commissioner Roy Alaimo, District 5 Commissioner Henry Dean, County Administrator Joy Andrews, Public Works Director Greg Caldwell, Assistant Director of Growth Management Dick D’Souza, and County Engineer Duane Kent.

Prosser is the civil engineer on the project, England-Thims and Miller, Inc. lead construction engineering and inspection (CEI) with Watson Civil completing the construction. St. Johns County will fund the project through impact fees, the Transportation Trust Fund, and developer contributions.

Construction is anticipated to finish in the Fall of 2025.

This transportation project groundbreaking follows the County Road 2209 groundbreaking that was held in December. Currently, the County has 35 Capital Improvement Program transportation projects with a budget of $183 million listed on its public CIP dashboard.
