Business Group is Amazed by City of Bunnell, Local Ag Industry Tour

L.E.A.D. Flagler, the PCF Chamber’s leadership development program, hosted it’s ninth meeting in April 2024: Bunnell and West Flagler Day.

The first half of the day featured a meeting with Bunnell City Manager Dr. Alvin Jackson, who has positioned Bunnell well for future growth and development. Dr. Jackson showcased the new Bunnell City Hall site, where ground was recently broken for construction of their new government headquarters. Attendees also visited the historic Coquina City Hall Building, the City’s recently-updated water/sewer plant and multiple economic development projects.

Dr. Jackson and his team shared that Bunnell has different challenges and opportunities than other local governments in Flagler County. For example, Bunnell has a strong mix of commercial, industrial and residentially-zoned land, which has resulted in a diverse mix of local businesses. Recent economic development successes include the opening of Vidya Herbs, a nutriceutical business that manufactures health supplements using local saw palmetto plants. The future certainly seems bright for the City of Bunnell, which has a strong vision for future growth from the both the resident and business perspectives.

After lunch at Bunnell’s Southern Table, the L.E.A.D. Flagler group kicked off the second half of their day with a tour of the Hollar & Green cabbage processing plant and grow operations in Western Flagler County. Justin Light and others from the Hollar & Greene team explained the cabbage processing plant operations and discussed how this crop makes it from the field to the grocery store.

Shortly after the processing plant tour, L.E.A.D. Flagler Class #1 visited one of the many local Hollar & Green fields where four different types of cabbage grow. Attendees examined the different types of cabbage, discussed harvesting practices and received a head of cabbage to take home as a souvenir.

The PCF Chamber thanks both the City of Bunnell (City Manager Dr. Alvin Jackson) and Hollar & Green Farms (Justin Light) for hosting our L.E.A.D. Flagler group and showcasing their amazing local success stories.

ALERT: The PCF Chamber will begin accepting Class #2 applications for the 2024-2025 program year in the near future. Be on the lookout!
