In June 2022, the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce put together an Essential Worker Housing Coalition to tackle the issue of affordable housing for our essential workforce including public safety, first responders, medical professionals, industrial manufacturing employees, and educators. The initial Task Force membership included representatives from each of these sectors plus banking, investment companies, realtors and experts in land use and affordable housing law. This group is continuing to meet and develop ideas and alternatives to the shortage of available affordable housing for our area. Ultimately, the Chamber’s goal is to increase the absolute number of essential worker housing units built in St. Johns County, whether they be single family, apartment, condominium, townhouse, or duplex. In the video below experts and industry leaders point out the ability of our employees to work and LIVE in St. Johns County is a major driver for the continued growth and prosperity of our County’s economic success and an opportunity not to be missed.
