Five-Year Public Safety Plan is In Development for Palm Coast and Flagler County

The City of Palm Coast, the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners, and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office held a special workshop on March 20, 2024. This session represented a unique opportunity for community partners to come together, exchange insights, and chart a course for the future of public safety in our community.

Collaboratively, these organizations have created a comprehensive strategy with diverse avenues for funding public safety initiatives. The County Commission and the City Council are committed to ongoing dialogues aimed at refining this strategy and identifying sustainable funding sources for the future.

Noteworthy strides have already been made, with both the City of Palm Coast and Flagler County witnessing a remarkable decrease in crime, over 50% since 2017 and marking a 25-year low.

Moving forward, the County Administration, the City of Palm Coast leadership team, and the Sheriff’s Office will provide additional data points as per the boards’ requests. Moreover, they will collaborate on drafting a resolution to establish a calls-for-service metric to accommodate future growth. They will explore potential funding sources such as a ½ cent sales tax, Millage dedication, and other viable options, along with drawing insights from best practices across the state.

“This meeting underscores the commitment of the City of Palm Coast, Flagler County Government, and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office to collaborative governance,” said Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin. “By combining our resources, expertise, and diverse perspectives, our goal is to create a comprehensive and enduring public safety plan that caters to the needs of our evolving community. This workshop is a testament to the effective collaboration between our community and our Sheriff’s Office—a true reflection of what we can achieve when we work together.”
